Can you try the Corona warning app? These are the most important facts.

Can I try the Corona warning app?

No This is only possible for people invited by those responsible.

How large is the pool of application testers?

The Federal Council did not reveal this at the press conference. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) has so far not released any figures. It was only said to be a “limited group of users”.

Are there any negative consequences of “delay”?

“There would have been a testing phase in May anyway,” said Health Minister Alain Berset. Perhaps it will take a few days or weeks more due to the parliamentary resolution before the official launch of the app. Or then parliament would decide that the app would not be launched at all, which it considered highly unlikely, Berset said.

Can you get sick when the app displays a warning (about a possible infection)?

According to the Federal Council, this has not yet been clarified.

When does the testing phase start?

May 13, 2020.

Incidentally, the Federal Council talks about the “pilot phase”.

How is the testing phase regulated by law?

Through a temporary ordinance that the Federal Council plans to issue on Wednesday, May 13.

What else is required for the launch of the application?

The press release says:

[Der Bundesrat will] send an urgent message before May 20. This will be discussed and approved by parliament at the summer session in June. The app, developed by ETH, EPFL and the federal government, will be thoroughly tested in a pilot phase until the law is amended.

When is the Swiss app officially available?

That is still not certain. In the summer session (June 2 to 19), parliament must discuss the legal framework and decide whether and how the Swiss Corona Warning application will be launched.

Can the application have automatic quarantine?

No If users of the application receive a warning that they may be infected, they are only asked to call the Corona hotline. The additional procedure (Covid test 19, etc.) is discussed there.

Only the cantonal medical service, a doctor, can have a legally binding quarantine.

When will user data be deleted?

In the May 8 press release, it says, “All application data will be removed after 21 days.”

The decentralized tracking system designed by DP-3T provides that “contact” data stored on the server is automatically deleted.

Explanation: These are the encrypted codes stored on a state server that were loaded voluntarily by infected people. The data on the smartphone is deleted immediately if the corresponding application is deleted on the device. Also, of course, no new data is loaded, so the tracking system is practically disabled.

How long should the app be used for?

According to the Federal Council, the app should only be used in the containment phase.

How reliable is the app?

The public does not know yet. For this, practical tests will be carried out in the coming weeks.
