Suddenly, he was there, in the middle of no-man’s-land, and it was news all over the world. In late November, a steel monolith appeared in the US state of Utah. Unknown origin!
Soon after, more monoliths emerged like mushrooms. In the UK, Spain, Germany and even Switzerland. And the world wondered what could be behind the mysterious pillars. Some suspected that aliens were responsible for the monoliths. Others felt a tribute to the science fiction film “2001: A Space Odyssey”, in which a monolith can also be seen.
Now the puzzle seems solved. And the resolution is anything but supernatural. Quite trivial. In fact, it appears to be a Netflix publicity stunt. The creators of the Australian comedy show “Aunty Donna’s Big Ol ‘House of Fun” wanted to draw attention to themselves with the monoliths.
Fucked promo
As proof, they provided a video in which you can see how they made a monolith together with a YouTuber and then erected it. “This monolith is the most screwed up promo we’ve ever done,” the comedy group wrote on Twitter.
In fact, a monolith has appeared in Melbourne. The Australian pranksters should be responsible for the only steel column. But what about the others? Are there really just a few guys from overseas behind this?
Since the monoliths appeared and disappeared around the world, artists who want to be behind the action have manifested themselves. There is also a theory that the original column came from the sculptor John McCracken, who, according to the Guggenheim Museum, made very similar freestanding objects in the shape of pyramids, cubes, or polyhedra.
The monolith in the desert was already there in 2016
McCracken died in 2011, but his son Patrick told the New York Times that his father had already told him in 2002 that “he would like to place works of art in remote locations so they can be discovered later.”
Some trackers suspect that the mysterious object was installed in the rocky region of Utah before October 2016. This was suggested by satellite images from different years in which it can be seen from the fall of 2016.
Monoliths do not have a single origin. And who knows: maybe the aliens still confess to the whole ghost of the column. (hmh)
