The Bürgerspital Basel was present at the autumn fair with a stand year after year, but the Basel autumn fair, which this year would have celebrated its 550th anniversary, was canceled by Corona. “The idea came about because the fair was canceled,” says Marcel Hügi. He is the head of the integration business unit at Bürgerspital Basel (BSB).
At the same time a good offer would have been made. Thus came the pop-up store. The temporary store is at Freie Strasse 81. “Now we can display and sell our products in a prominent place,” says Hügi. But they also want to showcase the BSB brand, which underwent a relaunch. But the main argument in favor of the pop-up store, according to the director Beat Ammann: “We also want to show everything that is done in the BSB.”
Unsurprisingly, the store was designed in-house and the interior was built by BSB himself. The various workshops would easily have the capacity for it. People with disabilities or young people who take advantage of the reintegration measures work there. The store opens its doors tomorrow Saturday.
More inclusion with the store
Today, Friday, the Blindenheim Basel Foundation also opened its new restaurant at the foot of the Spalenberg. “Presence is a very important place for the inclusion of the visually impaired,” says Managing Director Georges Krieg. The store is called “Ybligg” and you can buy baskets, among other things.
But it is also done in the store itself. You can see a visually impaired person repairing a wicker seat on a chair. “We have wanted to perform in the heart of the city for a long time,” Krieg said.
All in cooperation with BSB. “The idea was not just to create a group,” says the blind home manager. Rather, they want to promote inclusion at all levels. Presenting together is the smart thing to do. You can find out for yourself if that works. In the pop-up shop until December 23, in Spalenberg indefinitely.
