In the final stages of the second stage of the Tour de Ski, Cologna also benefited from a mishap by its Russian competitors in the battle for the podium. On the last descent, Evgenj Belov and Alexej Chervotkin fell, Ivan Jakimuschkin had to take a detour. The Swiss seized the opportunity and crossed the finish line 23 seconds behind the superior winner Alexander Bolschunow.

In the general classification, Cologna climbed from 14th place to 4. The gap with the new leader Bolschunow is 1:11 minutes.

«It was a very good and tough race. I tried to position myself well and stand up to the Russians a bit, ”Cologna analyzed at the end. The downfall of his competitors naturally helped him. “But first you have to be in position to fight there.”

Baumann and Pralong in the top 20

Jonas Baumann also showed a good performance. Graubünden’s came in 14th, 50.2 seconds behind, and Candide Prlaong was also convincing, also ranking in the top 20 at 17th. Beda Klee was 23, Roman Furger was 28.
