No other ally of the United States has been as affected by the change in Washington as the government in London.
The “British Trump”: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is losing an ally in Donald Trump in his conflict with the EU.

No government in Europe has followed President Donald Trump with as much devotion as that of British Brexiters. On Saturday after Joe Biden’s election victory, London’s Foreign Minister Dominic Raab respectfully certified Trump that he had “fought hard” to stay in the White House. Prime Minister Boris Johnson left him with a half congratulations to Biden. Because the United States is Britain’s “most important ally”, it expects “close cooperation,” he said.
British opposition leader and Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer had reacted very differently: He praised Biden’s campaign as “a campaign of decency, integrity, compassion and strength.” Of course, the contrast was not surprising. Trump himself once endorsed Boris Johnson as “the Trump of Great Britain.” And Biden is credited with commenting that Johnson is “physically and emotionally” the purest “likeness” of Donald Trump.

The relationship between Boris Johnson and the American Democrats has long been strained. Johnson’s wicked comments about the person of Barack Obama and his dismissive treatment of the Good Friday Agreement, the Northern Ireland peace treaty, were never forgotten. Biden, of Irish descent and with many years of experience in international affairs, had recently warned Johnson that if his willingness to violate the treaty endangered peace in Northern Ireland, he would not have to wait for a trade deal with the United States. Even before the Brexit referendum in 2016, when Biden was still vice president, he had spoken to Obama against Britain’s exit from the EU.
Trump, on the other hand, fitted a Brexit as hard as possible into the concept of his anti-EU course. So Johnson now faces a problem. A decision must be made on your country’s future relations with the EU in the coming days. Political experts in London believe that Johnson is more likely to give up now when entering into a contract with Brussels. However, it is not impossible for the negotiations to fail. Meanwhile, attempts are being made in London to establish contact with Biden’s team. Due to the proximity to Trump, this has not been the first priority so far. The conservative London Sunday Times responded with the mocking headline: “Mr. President, I have a Mr. Johnson on the line, do you want to take this call or not?”
