The first temporary approval for a corona vaccine has arrived. The German company Biontech and the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer can use their vaccine in the UK in emergency situations in affected patients.
“For the first time, people who have not participated as test subjects in the development of the vaccine can be vaccinated against Covid-19,” says Biontech co-founder and CEO Ugur Sahin (55) in a press release from the company.

40 million cans reserved
Britain had already reserved 40 million doses of vaccines from the pharmaceutical duo in advance. Some of them should already be delivered this year. Switzerland also has an agreement with the companies: the federal government is said to have reserved three million doses of the potential vaccine from Pfizer / Biontech.
The companies recently declared that their vaccine was effective in protecting more than 90 percent of those vaccinated against corona. The Swissmedic authority is also working on approval in Switzerland. It can take up to three months to get there. They are still waiting for the final dates, it was said in early November.
Other top candidates currently at the forefront in the race for a vaccine: American biotech group Moderna, which will produce at Lonza, and British company Astra Zeneca.
