As the canton of Basel-Stadt announced on Wednesday, events with more than 1,000 people are no longer allowed with immediate effect. The goal is that the number of corona cases can be reduced.
With the increase in the number of cases, the risk of a superpreader event with far-reaching consequences increases. It is now important to protect existing intervention systems, such as contact tracing and medical care, especially in hospitals.
FC Basel and a cultural event are affected in the canton of Basel-Stadt
Large events are no longer compatible with the requirements of the Federal Council of Sunday, October 18, 2020, to prohibit gatherings of more than 15 people in public spaces. Major event protection concepts are effective. However, what is critical is what happens before and after games outside of stadiums or venues.
According to its own statements, the health department will not issue new permits for major events with more than 1,000 people by the end of the year. The Basel area is also making progress on this point. As a general rule, large events with more than 1,000 people will not be approved in the canton of Baselland that will take place between November 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, depending on the canton. Permits already granted for major events in the aforementioned period will be revoked, according to Wednesday’s notice.
The governments of Basel-Stadt, Baselland, Solothurn and Bern have discussed and tried to take similar measures.
These are the measurements in the Basel area
- Restriction of guests in bars and clubs to 100 people
- Seated mask requirement will be expanded
- In addition to club and bar operators, event organizers with more than 50 people must also collect contact details.
- As of Thursday, people over 12 years of age must wear a mask in nurseries, facilities for supplementary school care and in general in the rooms of children’s and youth homes.
In addition to the measures, the Basel government also announced that the cantonal crisis team had been reactivated. The measures will take effect on Thursday, October 22.
These are the measurements in Solothurn
- Limited to 300 people present in clubs at the same time
- Curfew in bars and clubs on Fridays and Saturdays between 1 and 6 am
- All restaurants, clubs and bars are required to collect contact details.
- Restriction to 50 people in public and private events if distance cannot be maintained and protective measures are not taken.
Solothurn has recorded the measures in an emergency ordinance, which takes effect on October 22 and applies until January 31, 2021.
