Together with the German state of Baden-Württemberg, the canton of Aargau wants to improve cross-border traffic connections. This was written by the cantonal Department of Construction, Transport and Environment in a press release sent on Monday. To seal the project, both parties signed a letter of intent at the Waldshut district office. The aim is to coordinate joint traffic planning along the Upper Rhine. Secretary of State Vincenza Trivigno signed the declaration of the canton of Aargau.
He wants to answer future questions in the field of transport together with the districts of Waldshut and Lörrach. This is the only way to ensure that planning can be coordinated on both sides of the Rhine. “The increasing interdependencies between our regions have many positive effects and contribute to our high level of prosperity,” he says. However, they require coordination in the planning and processing of traffic flows.

According to the Department of Construction, Transport and Environment, cross-border interdependencies have increased significantly in recent years. This applies to daily, commercial, business and leisure travelers as well as freight traffic.
“The traffic situation on the road places a lot of stress on citizens on both sides of the Rhine and presents great challenges to the border regions. Border crossings are increasingly reaching their limits,” said Dr. Martin Kistler, administrator of the district and president of the regional association Hochrhein Bodensee.
