At around 3 am, the 30-year-old driver collided with an Opel traveling in the same direction on the A3 heading for Zurich, near Rheinfelden. The Opel crashed into the central barrier and stopped.
The BMW fled and headed for the Mumpf rest area at reduced speed. “There he lost control of the vehicle and collided violently with a ramp in front of the bathroom,” read a message from the cantonal police of Aargau.
The driver was seriously injured. He had to surrender his driver’s license to the detox authorities. The vehicles and the central railing suffered material damage worth several thousand francs.
The prosecutor ordered a blood and urine test on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and opened a criminal investigation.
The canton police are now clarifying the exact course of the accident. (pka)
