BLICK has been a part of Switzerland for more than 60 years. However, so far it is only available in German. That should change next year. The Blick Group expands into French-speaking Switzerland and in 2021 founds the French-speaking Swiss equivalent of Blick.ch.
“We are launching an independent digital media offering targeting Suisse romande,” confirms Ladina Heimgartner, CEO of Blick Group. “We see great opportunities for this, both with readers and in the advertising market.”
Everything that moves the Suisse romande
The online news platform will serve French-speaking readers with the full range of topics: from politics to sport, from business to society and people. The gaze should become a strong voice in Suisse romande, especially among young target groups. The French-speaking Swiss edition also serves the Blick Group as a hub for innovation.
“Blick reports on everything that moves people in our country. We look forward to reaching the second largest language region in Switzerland in the future with content that is tailored to your needs, ”said Christian Dorer, editor-in-chief of the Blick Group. “This makes Blick even more of a Swiss brand.”
Michel Jeanneret becomes editor-in-chief
Michel Jeanneret (47), currently editor-in-chief of “L’illustré”, is responsible. He will move to the Blick Group on November 16, 2020 and will establish an independent editorial team with a small team of journalists and digital experts at the Lausanne location.
“Launching a brand as strong as Blick in French-speaking Switzerland is an extraordinary challenge that I face with all my energy and enthusiasm. I am firmly convinced that this new medium will be essential in French-speaking Switzerland, ”he says. Among other things, he wants to ensure this with his own research and great interviews.
“Readers in French-speaking Switzerland are full”
“With Michel Jeanneret we have been able to win a renowned journalist for Blick’s expansion into French-speaking Switzerland,” said Heimgartner. “The aim is for leading Suisse Romande journalists to investigate exclusive topics that appeal to readers in French-speaking Switzerland.”
To this end, Jeanneret will create a network of investigative journalists. It focuses on researching topics that meet the needs of French-speaking users. The editorial team also builds on existing technical synergies within the Blick Group and the Ringier Group’s digital systems landscape.
