American actor Chadwick Boseman passed away this Friday at the age of 43. The star of several superhero movies lost the battle with cancer.
American actor Chadwick Boseman, who became known as the star of “Black Panther,” has passed away. The 43-year-old man died of cancer, his family announced Friday night (local time) “with immeasurable sadness” on Twitter and Instagram. Consequently, the black actor has suffered from colon cancer since 2016. He died at home with his family. Boseman’s team confirmed the actor’s death for the film magazine “Variety.”
He was a “real fighter,” it said in the Boseman family message. He made many of his films while undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. It was “the honor of his career” to bring the character of T’Challa to life in “Black Panther.”
Colleagues cry
The news caused consternation among colleagues and fans. Oscar winner Brie Larson posted a broken red heart on Twitter. “We will miss her and never forget her,” the actress wrote. “Rest in love, bro,” lamented actor Dwayne Johnson. “Thank you for your light and for sharing your talent with the world.”
In the comic film adaptation of “Black Panther” (2018), Boseman played the king’s son, T’Challa. It was the first superhero movie with almost exclusively black actors in front of and behind the camera. He has also appeared in movies such as Avengers: Infinity War, 21 Bridges, and most recently directed by Spike Lee in Da 5 Bloods.
He first became popular in Hollywood in 2013 as baseball star Jackie Robinson in the sports drama “42.” A year later he played the “Godfather of Soul”, singer James Brown (1933-2006) in “Get On Up”.
