On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, the Bern canton police received a report at 8:50 am that a mountain restaurant in Zweisimmen was on fire. When firefighters arrived, the detached building was already in the middle of fire. The fire brigades managed to prevent it from spreading to an auxiliary building. However, the building with the dining and living areas burned down completely. A helicopter was deployed to carry out fire suppression, and it blew water from nearby Seebergsee to the scene of the fire.
At the time the fire broke out, there were four people in the building’s living room. Everyone could leave the house independently and unharmed.
In addition to various services of the cantonal police in Bern, the fire brigades of Zweisimmen, Spiez and Diemtigen, a Swiss Helicopter helicopter, a team of ambulances deployed as a precaution and a representative of the governor of the Saanen government were on duty. Access from Diemtigtal was closed during the operation by firefighters.
