Biathlon sprint in Hochfilzen – Premieres for Alimbekawa and Dale – Swiss defeated – Sport

  • Dzinara Alimbekawa surprisingly wins her first World Cup victory in the 7.5km Hochfilzen women’s sprint.
  • In the men’s competition, Norwegian Johannes Dale triumphed in an individual competition for the first time.
  • The Swiss team missed a feat. Irene Cadurisch (26th) and Benjamin Weger (26th) ensure the best Swiss results.

Not Hanna Öberg (SWE), who has already won 2 sprints this season and is leading the World Cup overall. And neither did Dorothea Wierer (ITA), who dominated last season. No, Dzinara Alimbekawa won in Hochfilzen, Austria. Wierer finally finished eighth, for Öberg it was a disappointment 31st.

Belarusian Alimbekawa was one of a kind on the shooting range and she did not miss. He triumphed 8.5 seconds ahead of Tiril Eckhoff (NOR) and almost 10 seconds ahead of Franziska Preuss (GER).

Swiss women without feat

From the Swiss point of view, only Irene Cadurisch reached her usual level. Thanks to an impeccable shooting performance, she came in 26th as the best Swiss woman.

The remaining Swiss women disappointed. Lena Häcki (38th) and Selina Gasparin (40th) secured a spot in the 10km chase on Sunday. Aita and Elisa Gasparin missed the top 60.

Only Weger qualifies for the chase

The men also waited in vain for a Swiss feat. Benjamin Weger, who finished fourth in the first sprint at Kontiolahti, had to settle for 26th after 2 shooting errors. Sebastian Stalder, Jeremy Finello and Eligius Tambornino all missed a spot in the top 60 and associated rankings for Saturday’s chase.
