Berset tends to slow down rather than crash

Health Minister Alain Berset observed a coronavirus situation in Switzerland “that has been very worrying in the last hours and days.” One cannot be content with a stagnation in the number of cases. The number of views must fall below 0.8.

Berset said on Wednesday after visiting hospitals in the canton of Neuchâtel that coronavirus cases in Switzerland would increase exponentially. With 750 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a current reproduction number of 1.13, Switzerland has the highest numbers in Europe.

The development in the last hours and days is very worrying, Berset told the media. Hospitals are at the limit of their capacity and health workers are under great pressure. If nothing is done, you risk having to shut everything down.

The R value must be less than 0.8

The next stage should be to reduce the number of cases and the number of reproductions. One cannot be satisfied with stagnation. If a reasonably stable situation is to be achieved this winter, the number of reproductions must be reduced below 0.8.

Berset recalled that several variants are currently being consulted with the cantons. According to the Federal Council, it will be more in the direction of tightening the measures than in the direction of a blockade, as in the spring. Berset spoke out clearly against closing the schools.
