Bern loses at Ambri despite 3-0 lead: Servette dismantles Zug in top game

SC Bern now leads 3-0 at Ambri, but loses the game on penalties. Zug has no chance against Servette, Biel just won the cellar duel against HC Davos.

Servette – movement 4: 0

Joël Vermin decided the match of the round in the National League. Vermin led the Genève-Servette Hockey Club to a 4-0 victory over Zug.

The Zuger lost only for the second time in this championship and for the first time away. Even if the decision came from Zuger Optik after 47 minutes, Servette deservedly won this game.

The Servettiens almost took the lead at 80 seconds through Vermin (shot from the post). The 1-0, however, only fell after 29 minutes. Vermin seemed to deflect Linus Omark’s shot; Omark retained the goal until the end of the game. There were no more doubts at 2-0. Vermin went in and out, he was brought down by Yannick Zehnder, and after Vermin’s collision with Zug goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni, the puck slipped behind the line.

This decisive goal was bitter for Zug because seconds before Dario Simion had missed the equalizer after a brilliant pass from Gregory Hofmann. Then defender Simion was missing behind. Twelve seconds after the 2-0 victory, Michael Völlmin increased his first goal of the season to 3-0 for Geneva.

At Servette, Gauthier Descloux reached the first shutout of the season with 28 saves. Descloux was guarding the door because Daniel Manzato, the other Geneva goalkeeper, was still in quarantine. Manzato lives in Freiburg and the canton’s doctor ordered a longer quarantine for him than for the rest of the Geneva team, which had been training again since Tuesday.

Ambri-Piotta – Bern 4: 3 nP

The Bern Ice Skating Club sank further into the Ambri crisis. The Bernese were leading 3-0 until the 34th minute, but fell completely after the first goal and lost 3: 4 after a penalty shoot-out.

For more than 30 minutes, everything indicated that the Bernese would be able to free himself. Progress was made at two “construction sites”. In the first nine games, the SCB only scored two power play goals (out of 25 chances). At Leventina, Bern scored the goals 1-0 (by Ramon Untersander) and 3-0 (by Gaëtan Haas) in the first 26 minutes from the first two installments.

After conceding the first goal, nothing positive was seen in Bern. Noele Trisconi and Julius Nättinen (goals 9 and 10 of the season) tied. Ambri could have won the game in regulation time.

On the penalty shootout, Ambri-Piotta had four attempts from Jiri Novotny, Brian Flynn and Dominic Zwerger. Only Untersander met for Bern.

Biel 2-1 Davos

EHC Biel hopes to finally have found its way out of the crisis thanks to a 2-1 home win over Davos. The Zeelanders won for the first time after five consecutive defeats (including the Cup). And above all, his defense held firm for the first time since the first round (6-0 against Lausanne).

Biel has always conceded four or more goals since the game against Lausanne. Against Davos, Biel was left behind after less than four minutes at most (!), But Biel did not allow more. Joren van Pottelberghe, last season at Davos, shone with 31 saves. Marc-Antoine Pouliot (36th) and Fabio Hofer (57th) achieved the change of course with their goals.

HC Davos falls back to 11th place in the table. The Graubünden team have never won twice in a row this season.

He seems unhappy, but he has every reason to be happy: Biel’s top scorer, Janis Moser. Image: keystone

Ivars Punnenovs, the SCL Tigers goalkeeper, saved 34 shots (out of 38), but at the crucial moment the Swiss-licensed Latvian speculated. Ambri and the Valascia – the farewell of the ice master to the stone soul of our hockey

After this season, Valascia, a place of power in Swiss ice hockey, will disappear from the map forever. One last tour of the most mythical stadium in our hockey.

Let’s start our last story about Valascia with a bit of pathos. Gustave Flaubert is a 19th century French poet. He once wrote: “There are places in the world that are so beautiful that you want to press them against your heart.” If he had been a hockey chronicler, he would have referred to Valascia with this phrase.

So far the romance. But the controversies are also part of it. There is a book on Ambri, compiled by Ruedi Ingold. There’s a …
