Alec von Graffenried is still mayor of Bern. In the municipal council elections, he was reelected with 34,930 votes. Opposition candidate Stefan Theiler (Zämä) received 2,413 votes (6.5 percent). The absolute majority was 18,673 votes.

The CVP man, Reto Nause, trembled from his seat. But he succeeded, and was able to prevail against the bourgeois candidates. “It’s a great satisfaction,” Nause said. It is his best result so far. The field on the left can be rightly satisfied. When he won four of the five seats in the Berne city government four years ago, many spoke of it as a chance victory.
