Today, SRF’s hit show “Happy Day” is presented very differently: with studio circuits, Röbi Koller (62) and Kiki Maeder (39) amaze people across Switzerland. The two crossed the country in a special truck to gather people who were separated by the Corona crisis, at least for a brief moment. Beatrice Egli (31) also has a place on the show: she gave a concert for the isolated residents of the Bergli nursing home in the city of Glarus. “It was also a happy day for me,” says Egli.
VIEW: Was the appearance at the retirement home also a happy day for you? What do you mean
Beatrice Egli: Due to the Corona crisis, all my concerts have been canceled. I miss traveling and being on stage. When I performed at the retirement home, I was able to experience an emotional and moving appearance together with the residents.
What security measures have been taken?
Otherwise, I usually perform with a band, only my guitarist was there. We were both in a meadow in front of the old people’s house and we played the songs at the necessary distance from the audience. I couldn’t deliver autographs. For this, I have already prescribed some that were only distributed to residents after they had not been touched for 24 hours.
What were the reactions?
The residents really touched me. Many thought they knew me from television and never thought that I would sing with them. And it was also something special for me: nobody danced at the tables, but you could see the joy in the eyes of the residents. And once it was a concert, without the many cell phones filming on the air (laughs)
Since the crown closed you have been at your home on Lake Zurich, very close to the family. How do you experience this time?
It is a rise and fall, an emotional roller coaster. But I make the most of it, I try to immerse myself in my music and work on the new album. This is a balm for my soul. Of course, I don’t just have light thoughts.
What do you care
When I had to cancel my tour in the spring, my tears started to flow. I become very weak right now. I am also aware that the end of the event ban will be announced in stages and that there will be no major concerts for a long time. Appreciation is even greater as soon as I can get back on stage. And then I celebrate two and three times with my audience.
A year ago you were thinking out loud about moving from Switzerland. Now you are living close to your family again in Pfäffikon SZ. During this time, are you happy that you stayed true to your homeland?
Yes, I really appreciate living so close to my loved ones and I had plenty of time to set up my new apartment. However, I already know my four walls well and miss being in a different place every day. I’d rather live on a suitcase than on a closet.
How do you spend your days?
During the day I do organizational things, at night my creative phase is where I work in music. I enjoy having enough time for once. That is why I go outdoors one hour a day, that gives me strength. I visit my grandparents at the retirement home once a week. It’s under her balcony, and we talk on the phone. After telling them about my Happy Day concert, you want me to do the same for you. We will address that soon.
How big is your fear of the corona virus?
I have some good friends who are sick. Fortunately, they all got through it well and did not have a critical course. Among them, even someone who had heart surgery just a year ago. To some extent, this takes away my fear of illness. However, I still adhere to the BAG regulations.
How do you isolate yourself?
At the beginning of the blockade, I isolated myself for two weeks because I returned from traveling. Now I see the closest family, of course, by far. I don’t remember the last time I was home for so long. Even before my “DSDS” victory seven years ago, I was always on the go.
How is the butchery of your family?
My parents and siblings clearly feel the loss of the restoration until June. For this, buying from the store is much more diligent. People seem to cook a lot together at home right now.
You too
One thing is for sure: walking to the fridge is also very busy for me! (Laughs) Clearly I cook more than in normal times. But I admire all the housewives who evoke a different dish on the table every day. My talent for cooking alone is enough for ten to twelve days.
What did you discover at home during this time?
I spend much more time on social media, but before I had less time. I write on Facebook and Instagram with fans, I look at their profiles and I like them and positive energy. It is a little addictive. Sometimes I only realize after three hours how long I’ve been sitting there (laughs) I am happy when I am back on the road and can meet everyone again in real life.
How about you in love?
Do you ask at times when you can’t meet anyone? (Laughs))
Maybe you met someone shortly before Corona and now you’re getting to know yourself better in quarantine?
Yes, that would be possible. But no: at first my isolation was completely alone, now in a close family circle. So everything is as it was before the times of Corona. I am still single.
