Party members voted Wednesday night on the dissolution of the BDP Chur. The request came from the board of directors, which wanted to let individual members decide which party to join. CVP was not a “valid option” for board members, the former board announced Thursday.
The motion reached a majority in the assembly with nine to five votes and two abstentions. The two-thirds majority required for the party to dissolve was narrowly lost with 16 members present. As a result, the BDP Chur continues to appear on the political map.
The BDP board members, however, immediately grabbed their hats. All three would go to the FDP, Grand Councilor Oliver Hohl said Thursday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The election of the new board also took place on Wednesday night.
The BDP Chur is now chaired by Christoph Widmer. He is the husband of former Federal Councilor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, who, while living in Felsberg, is also a member of the BDP Chur. According to Grossrat Hohl, the merger of parties between the BDP and CVP to form “Die Mitte” is on the right track. “We have a special situation in Chur,” he emphasized.
