Basel wins first game after quarantine

Basel return to the Super League after a forced four-week, ten-day quarantine break with a 3-1 win at St. Gallen. Pajtim Kasami scores his first goal in FCB’s first game.

In the 70th minute Kasami hit a back pass from Julian von Moos with a strong shot to make it 3-1 for Basel. The blow nipped the final offense of St. Gallen in the bud. St. Gallen coach Peter Zeidler had brought new strength to the attack seconds earlier with three changes.

The Basler got the victory thanks to a good defensive performance and the greater efficiency in attack. With his third goal of the season, Brazil’s Cabral gave the guests the lead in the 6th minute when St. Gallen goalkeeper Zigi bounced off a shot. After Kwadwo Duah tied (13th), it was Fabian Frei who brought FCB back to the front shortly before half-time (39th). The representative of the sick captain Valentin Stocker completed a race of more than 65 meters with confidence.

“You can’t defend like this in the Super League,” Zeidler said, upset by the second goal in an interview with “Blue Sport.” After a perfect start to the season, the St. Gallen team has only earned one point from the last three games.
