Basel-Stadt elections 2020 – Red-Green has to ask the regional council the question of staff – News

The elections to the governing council are elections of personality, this was once again impressively demonstrated in the elections in Basel. This illustrates a great surprise, namely the poor performance of the president of the Green District, Elisabeth Ackermann. Four years ago he made the choice as new immediately, now he landed in ninth place defeated.

Red-Green has been successfully politicized for the past four years and has won virtually every vote. But in Elisabeth Ackermann, Rot-Grün has a person who is not convincing as district president, and not just with her controversial decision to remove the director of the historical museum. Ackermann lacks ideas in Basel’s cultural policy and, above all, lacks the necessary charisma in public appearances.

Ackermann received the receipt

Today Ackermann received the receipt. The bad ninth place is a lesson, even the SP’s political allies say. But what is meant by this lesson? Voters are likely to want someone else to fill this position. If Red-Green wants to keep its majority on the second vote, there is no way around asking the personnel question.

On the other hand: Stephanie Eymann. Practically out of nowhere, the LDP candidate gets a very good result, even if she has yet to move on to the second ballot.

Eymann convinced in the electoral campaign

Eymann’s campaign appearances have convinced many voters that she fits the role of prime minister. It brings with it what Ackermann lacks: a convincing appearance

But the die is not yet cast. There is a second vote in which three seats are available. That means that now it is possible to do many things. It can be assumed that heavyweights will compete again: Kaspar Sutter (SP), Stephanie Eymann, but also Security Director Baschi Dürr (FDP) and Elisabeth Ackermann. You must not forget Esther Keller (GLP), who certainly wants to have a voice.

Basel is probably facing one of the most exciting second votes in a long time.
