60 cars damaged in an underground car park in Basel – by a fire extinguisher. Strangers emptied it in the garage. That happened on Signalstrasse. There were several 10,000 Swiss francs in property damage.
Previous investigations by the criminal police revealed that unknown persons blew the fuses of fixed fire extinguishers in the underground parking lot of an apartment building at 7:45 p.m. Sunday – and emptied them. Around 60 vehicles were damaged by the extinguishing material and there was a high level of material damage.
Similar incident less than a month ago
Almost a month ago there was material damage on Signalstrasse due to the emptying of fire extinguishers. At that time, the extinguishing material damaged 80 vehicles. There was also property damage of tens of thousands of francs. In addition, in the first incident, a woman who had just left the garage with her vehicle was injured by inhaling the extinguishing material.
Owners of affected vehicles are now being asked to report them to the nearest police station. In addition to the cantonal police, the Basel-Stadt fire rescue brigade was also on duty. (euc)
