As of next Monday, quarantine requirements apply to 55 countries upon entering Switzerland. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) updated the list of countries with a higher risk of corona infection on Friday. Croatia added, Belgium removed.

The new list will go into effect on Monday, September 7, as announced by the BAG. Anyone entering from one of the risk countries must be quarantined for ten days. On Friday, this was the case for a total of 7,633 people who returned home. In the latest adjustment on August 20, the BAG classified 53 countries as risk areas.

The Federal Office has recently added Croatia, a popular holiday destination, to the list. In addition, San Marino was added in Europe. French Polynesia, Lebanon, Libya, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Paraguay and the United Arab Emirates are also recently included.

BAG has canceled Belgium and Luxembourg in Europe. Belgium, for its part, has 16 Swiss cantons on the list of risk areas. In the Middle East, Oman is no longer considered a risk country. Kazakhstan disappeared from the risk list, as did Mexico.

The quarantine for people arriving from a state or area with a higher risk of infection has been in effect since early July. Those who have arrived must report to the cantonal authorities within two days. Based on their own information, they verify quarantine compliance with random samples.

The federal government has anchored the criteria of risk countries in a regulation: these are countries in which the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days was higher than 60.
