The number of cases as high as Tuesday has not occurred since April 3. At that time, the BAG reported 928 new infections. The trend has been increasing since June. Since early September, the number of cases has returned to the 400 range.
Relative to the last 14 days to Monday, there were 66.6 laboratory-confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Switzerland. This has exceeded the limit of 60 set by the federal government, above which Switzerland defines a country or region as a risk area. In total, the BAG counted 5708 new infections during this time.
On Monday, 1,548 new infections with the Sars-CoV-2 virus were reported over the weekend. The FOPH counted 552 infections on Friday, 550 on Thursday, 411 on Wednesday, and 225 on Tuesday.
There have been a total of 56,632 laboratory-confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. Since then, 4,941 people have had to be treated in hospital for Covid 19 disease. The number of deaths related to Covid 19 disease remained at 1787.
In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, 1,424,477 tests have been conducted so far for Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of the respiratory disease Covid-19. Compared to Monday, the new BAG 7217 tests were reported. In 4.7 percent of all tests, the result was positive for the past few months. For the past two weeks, the positivity rate was 4.9 percent.
According to the BAG, 2,958 people were in isolation and 7,006 people were in quarantine on Tuesday due to contact tracing. In addition, 12,189 returnees from countries at risk were in quarantine.
