Forget the handbrake: Smart rolls onto the track: the freight train can no longer stop

An unsecured parked car fell onto a railway track at Baden AG on Friday morning. There was a collision with a freight train. People were not injured. The incident caused disruptions in rail traffic between Brugg AG and Zurich.

The collision occurred at 7.30 am on Bruggerstrasse in Baden, as announced by the Aargau canton police. The motorist had previously parked his small car in his employer’s parking lot.

However, he hadn’t parked the train or hit the parking brake. Unnoticed at first, the small car began to move in the gently sloping plaza, rolled down the embankment, and came to a stop on the adjacent train track.

At that moment a freight train approached and brushed against the carriage. The car was wrecked. Until the car was recovered at 9:30 am, rail traffic was disrupted. (sda)
