Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (34, ÖVP) will visit Switzerland this Friday afternoon. He will meet with Federal President Simonetta Sommaruga (60, SP) at the Lohn estate in Kehrsatz in Bern.
A topic in the talks between the two delegations of Kurz and Sommaruga will surely also be the worsening of the crown situation in both countries. Switzerland has already declared the capital region of Vienna a risk zone.
The “traffic light of Corona” is less and less green
Our neighbor to the east is leaning on the so-called “Corona stoplight” in the fight against the pandemic. The objective is to clarify to the population the great differences in the epidemiological situation in the individual regions of the country and the risk of infection in certain areas.
This is based on the fact that regional clusters and critical points must be responded to with strong and limited measures at the regional level. If the “Corona traffic light” is red, it indicates that there is a very high risk of infection in this area. Orange indicates high risk. Yellow indicates a medium risk with a moderate number of cases. Green shows individual cases and outbreaks in isolated groups.
But not a single federal state in Austria is evergreen. In addition to other districts and cities, the state capital, Salzburg, has just been updated to yellow.
Only ten people allowed
Salzburg had a seven-day average of 48 new infected people per 100,000 residents. The population is asked to help reduce the number of cases to a controllable level.
The Austrian federal government has now reacted to the growing number by restricting social contacts. Only ten people are allowed at private parties and indoor events. In restaurants, the mask requirement also applies to guests. Only sitting consumption is allowed. Austria has greatly expanded the number of crown events.
