- Stan Wawrinka (ATP 20) is in the second round of the ATP 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy.
- The Swiss defeats Daniel Evans (ATP 31) in 2 sets with 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 3).
- Tommy Paul (ATP 55) is waiting for the next round.
Strong performance by Stan Wawrinka in Paris: The 35-year-old from Vaud didn’t give Briton Daniel Evans a chance in his first game, who has already beaten 8 of the top 20 players this year. As usual, Wawrinka put a lot of pressure, beating numerous winners and forcing Evans to make mistakes.
In the first set, Wawrinka set the pace early on. When the score was 2: 1, he made the decisive break. Evans even had to defend against another break ball.
In the second set, the British world number 31 rose. Evans served better and forced his opponent to run longer rallies. In the tie-break, however, Wawrinka made a fresher impression and won it 7: 3. As a result, Wawrinka secured a place in the second round.
Simon or Paul in round 2
Wawrinka’s next opponent is Tommy Paul. The American won against local hero Gilles Simon in three sets.
