After just one night under the new Zurich Crown regime, clubs are changing their strategy: The Zurich Bar and Club Commission (BCK) withdraws the recommendation to hold events with more than 100 people that require a mask. (read our report of the masquerade party at The Hive here).

“The canton’s statements to the media and the threatening backdrop created by the police generated great uncertainty among our members in the last 24 hours,” the BCK explains in a press release its new recommendation. You want to protect the members.

The BCK and the government disagreed to the end on how the new regulation should be interpreted. One thing is clear to the governing council: the masks do not change the maximum number of people in the clubs. On the other hand, the BCK maintains that a club night is an event and, according to the cantonal ordinance, it must also be possible for up to 300 people with a mask requirement. Despite the new recommendation not to host events with more than 100 people in clubs on the weekend, keep this attitude.

Many criticisms of the new regulation

The new regulation is already having its first consequences: reie clubs Pet and Square They advertise on their websites that they will close operations “until further notice” due to the new upper limit. RE.i.e. BCK In its press release, it expresses the assumption that the closures are in the canton’s interest, but the government does not openly represent this view. The BCK is also disappointed that there was no prior communication on the new rules, that the regulation was not clear, and that questions were only answered with delay. Also, Wednesday’s post was too tight, especially since the deployment had to happen on Thursday.

They are now calling for constructive talks with the government to find solutions, both financially and in terms of event technology.
