The Astrazeneca vaccine is supposed to protect against not only becoming seriously ill from a coronavirus infection, but also against transmission of the virus. According to researchers at the University of Oxford in the UK, vaccination will greatly reduce transmission of the virus.
Until now it was not clear to what extent a vaccinated person could transmit the virus if infected. British Health Secretary Matt Hancock is extremely optimistic about the study. The vaccine is said to minimize the number of infections by two-thirds. Describes the results as “absolutely exceptional.”
“It will help us survive this pandemic”
The Health Minister told the BBC: “We now know that the Astrazeneca vaccine also reduces transmission. That will help us survive this pandemic. “
Others, however, are less optimistic. After all, these are preliminary results of the study. On the new study, Dr Doug Brown, head of the UK Immunology Society, said: “She suggests that the AstraZeneca vaccine may be effective in preventing people from transmitting the virus.”
Investigate more study results
But the results of the study need more research. However, if they do, they can be seen as great hope. The Astrazeneca vaccine has not yet been approved in Switzerland; it is still being tested. (euc)
