• On Tuesday night, Ascona became the first Ticino municipality to make the outdoor mask mandatory.
• This applies from the middle of next week in the city center and in the square by the lake.
• The outdoor mask requirement should make a “covid-free Asona” possible.

The city council wants to lay the foundations for a “responsible holiday” in Ascona and has decided in terms of the health of tourists and locals.

In addition to Ascona, the cities of Locarno and Lugano have already discussed a possible mask requirement.

• Locarno has opposed a general outdoor mask requirement. However, new signs will be posted referring to the regulation at the federal level, Mayor Alain Scherrer said upon request. The ordinance establishes a mask requirement in busy pedestrian areas in urban centers, town centers, and winter sports centers. In addition, the mask is mandatory in areas of public space “as soon as there is a concentration of people where the required distance cannot be maintained.”
• The city of Lugano reportedly intends to decide on a possible mask requirement in the coming days.

In Ascona, it is mandatory to wear a protective mask outdoors from the middle of next week.
