For a long time, the canton of Bern was below the national average for corona infections. But recently there have been more and more infections. That is why the governing council decided last week that masks are mandatory.
Starting Monday, mouth and nose protection should be worn in nearly all indoor public access spaces. These include:
- Stores and shopping centers
- Train Stations
- Mail offices
- Museums, theaters and libraries
- Administration building
- Houses of worship
In restaurants, guests can only remove the mask when sitting at the table. As an additional measure to contain the coronavirus, the governing council has decided that guests of bars, clubs and restaurants should be seated. In addition, the number of guests in bars, clubs and discos is limited: a maximum of 300 people are allowed to stay in these places at the same time.
The canton of Bern wants to protect high-risk patients
“The canton of Bern wants to protect people at risk and the freedoms they have won,” health director Pierre Alain Schnegg (SVP) told the media on Wednesday. The hygienic masks also served as an outward signal to be alert.
Health Director Schnegg made no secret of the fact that he was not completely satisfied with the way the first major events had played out since October 1. He called on event organizers with more than 1000 people to consistently implement protection concepts. For their part, visitors must respect the rules.
“Corona’s traffic light is still yellow,” said Frank Neff of Corona’s special health department staff. But that could change at any time. Permissions for major events could also be revoked. (SDA / szm)
