He found a beautiful new life in Switzerland, and now his death. Circus bear Napa († 14) vegetated half his life in a cage in Serbia. Until 2018. The organization «Four Paws» took him out of the cage and rescued him. Since then, Napa has lived in the Arosa Bear Sanctuary.
“We are all shocked and infinitely saddened by this great loss,” Pascal Jenny, president of the Arosa Bären Foundation, is quoted in a statement. With Napa we lost the first Arosa bear with great charisma. Napa’s story and the development of its behavior touched the hearts of all the bear friends. “
Napa felt better for a moment
The animal was diagnosed with epilepsy in June 2020. It was treated to prevent epileptic seizures. Initially successful. There were no more seizures and she recovered well. “However, after a short recovery phase, he again suffered more and more tremors and therefore had to stay indoors for better observation. A veterinary examination under anesthesia did not provide any reliable information on the cause of the epilepsy, ”Arosa Tourismus wrote in a press release.
The bear’s condition worsened. The medication did not work as expected. And Napa seemed to be suffering. With a heavy heart, the decision was made to free the circus bear from its suffering.
“Napa had a great fan base with its friendly nature. In light of your past history of suffering, it is good for me to know that you were able to spend a wonderful time at the beautiful Arosa Bear Sanctuary. Even if, of course, he wished it had been longer. We will all miss him very much, and for us he will always be a symbol for all the animals we are allowed to help, ”says Alexandra Mandoki, country manager at Vier Pfoten Switzerland. (hmh)
