Around noon, a fire broke out in an apartment building in Rheineck SG. The local fire brigade moved in with around 60 emergency services. There were a total of four people in the home when the fire broke out, as St. Gallen cantonal police wrote in a press release.
A BLICK reader reporter was able to observe it all: “There was a bit of excitement at first because a resident didn’t know if his wife had left the house,” he tells BLICK. But it turned out that everyone was able to get out of the building in time.
Over 100,000 Swiss francs in property damage
A 61-year-old resident of the house had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance on suspicion of smoke poisoning. “The house is no longer habitable,” says Hanspeter Krüsi, media spokesman for the St. Gallen cantonal police, in front of VIEW. The material damage amounts to more than 100,000 francs.
Private accommodation or hotel rooms were arranged for the residents. According to Krüsi, it is not yet clear why the fire started. The cause of the fire is now being investigated by specialists from the St. Gallen canton police forensic competence center. (support)
