While trying to escape the police, he was shot several times and seriously injured.
One photo shows Bahrain lying on the ground bleeding and being treated by a paramedic. Bahrain is currently in a hospital. Doctors fight for their lives there.
Investigators found two unused knives, a Quran and two cell phones, as well as a bag with some personal effects. Including a document from the Italian Red Cross. According to this, the authorities were able to clearly identify the attacker.
At the moment, investigators are examining whether Bahrain may have been assisted by accomplices. They also want to know more precisely how the refugee got to the south of France.
More attacks in France
Just two hours after the attack in Nice, there was also an attack in Avignon. A man threatened passersby with a pistol and attacked the police officers. It is also said that he screamed “Allahu akbar”, write “Europe 1” However, this was later denied. The forces fired at the attacker. Currently a connection to the attack in Nice cannot be confirmed.
Police also arrested an Afghan in central Lyon on Thursday: he was armed with a knife, as the AFP news agency writes. The man is known to the security forces. It is not clear whether there is a connection to the attack in Nice.
A man was also arrested near a church in Sartrouville. Apparently he was armed with a knife. According to the newspaper “Le Parisien”, he had tried to imitate the crime in Nice, fortunately without success. The man could be arrested beforehand, his father had alerted the police in time.
Highest declared terrorism alert level
In Saudi Arabia there was a knife attack on the French consulate on Thursday. A man attacked and slightly injured a security officer in Jeddah. The state news agency SPA reported Thursday that the perpetrator was arrested. The man is around 40 years old.
After these attacks, France has now declared the highest level of terrorism alert. Prime Minister Jean Castex spoke of a “vile” and “barbaric” attack and announced a firm response from the government. A defense council chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron will meet in Paris on Friday morning, the prime minister said.
