Another bad news from the traditional Glarus textile industry. Silk printing company Mitloedi Textildruck AG filed for bankruptcy last week. The silk printing company of more than 80 years grew out of the Trümpy fabric printing company in Mitlödi, founded in 1840. It is famous for its Glarus Tüechli. The loss of the 33 jobs and all the technical skills is depressing, the company said.
In late April Jenny Fabrics AG, 186, at Ziegelbrücke GL, announced the end of textile production. All 96 employees lose their jobs. Both traditional companies have long suffered from the strong Swiss franc. The crown crisis now led to a massive drop in orders. Mitloedi textile printing lacked the resources to survive the crisis, writes the company’s management.
Actually a scarf
The Glarner Tüechli was originally produced as a scarf and was once known as “Nastuch of Zimmermann”. It had to be colored and not delicate for kitchen clothes. The typical red originated from the root of the craziest plant.
In recent years, the company has specialized in silk scarves for designers, decorative fabrics for the USA. USA, Bedding, dresses and patterned fabrics for curtains and upholstery. In the United States and France, three other employees lose their jobs on commission. (CNG)
