(wap) In her first major interview since taking office, BAG’s new CEO Anne Lévy spoke of “cautious optimism” and a “turnaround” on the horizon. The number of hospitalizations and deaths remains high, development must now be “closely monitored” in the coming days and weeks. The “leadership” is in the cantons.

In an interview, Lévy defended the Swiss strategy, which has been criticized by the World Health Organization for the associated wave of deaths. Switzerland takes into account the country’s large regional differences. “That makes sense because there are big differences in the infection rate between the cantons,” Lévy said.

Furthermore, Switzerland was not badly prepared for the second wave; “Nobody expected the numbers to increase so rapidly,” Lévy says in an interview.

Epidemiologists told CH Media in September that Switzerland was once again experiencing exponential growth.
