Petra Vlhova is crowned the most complete World Cup skier of the season by winning the great crystal ball. Yet in the hour of what is probably her biggest win yet, she’s disappointed in her own coach of all people.

It is true that in the end you play a bit with the bad weather in the final of the World Cup in Lenzerheide. Petra Vlhova’s victory of the great crystal ball is well deserved. The award for the most points accumulated in the World Cup in a winter is synonymous with the next milestone in Vlhova’s career, which no one would have expected a few years ago.

As Slovakia’s first World Cup winner, she is being celebrated across the country these days, but not by her own coach Livio Magoni. While the Italian praises his compatriots Marta Bassino, Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignona in an interview with the “Corriere della Sera” and describes them as “ski diamonds”, Magoni has far fewer compliments for his own athlete. “Compared to them, Petra is an iron.”

The 57-year-old should allude to Vlhova’s comparatively powerful and somewhat less elegant driving style. Vlhova is “very strong. But he has a problem: if something does not fit in his head, you have to intervene. Otherwise, throw it all away, ”Magoni complains, accusing Vlhova’s father and brother, who are part of the private team, of ignorance.

Vlhova reacts: “Each team has its own problems”

Vlhova reacts on Instagram to the strange statements of his coach. «The negative statements of my coach Livio Magoni in the Italian media, with which the journalists confronted me, shocked us in a moment of absolute joy. I don’t want to comment on them before we have talked to each other and clarified our positions, ”the 25-year-old writes.

He adds bluntly: “Like a family, each team has its own internal problems. (…) If we hadn’t done better than our rivals, we would never have won the World Cup overall. ”However, the common future of the successful team is probably in the stars, also because Magoni is already publicly questioning it: “It might be time to say goodbye after this milestone.” Vlhova may well have a similar opinion now.
