Wendy Holdener (26) has been a world champion and an Olympic champion. And he has already collected 38 podiums at the World Cup. The problem: only three of them were victories. “I wish I had some more,” says the ambitious Schwyzer. The new man who is supposed to help her is Austrian. His name: Klaus Mayrhofer. “We verified different options and chose it with Swiss Ski,” Holdener said of his new coach.
Mayrhofer, 47, was a ski runner (with little success) and later made a name for himself primarily as a coach for Czech Sarka Strachova (formerly Zahorbska). He trained her from 2012 to 2017: Strachova won the bronze in the 2015 slalom. «I have known Wendy for a long time. He is very ambitious and determined. I like working with people who are willing to go the hard way, ”says Mayrhofer, who last worked for ÖSV women for three years, also in the speed area. He didn’t have to think much when Swiss coach Beat Tschuor called him. “I am convinced that Wendy can also get the long-awaited victory of the first slalom.”
Holdener is also happy. After separating from her former coach Werner Zurbuchen (he wanted to be more with the family), she is open to new attractions. He currently works in the specially equipped gym. And he says: «Klaus is a great guy. And we are convinced that it fits perfectly into the team. I have a very good feeling.
