The countdown is on. The three-day trials in Bahrain will begin in just 19 days. The first cars for 2021 were presented, especially the new paint! You still can’t look at the cards. Not even Alpha-Sauber. The C41 is the only car that is not presented digitally from the factory, but from the great theater in Warsaw. Without a spectator, of course, online fans are also informed here. Polish main sponsor Orlen (mineral oil) has of course asked the three drivers Räikkönen, Giovinazzi and Kubica to come to the capital alongside team boss Vasseur. You can see here how the Sauber team used to present their new cars on a grand scale:
Esparto? A wish of Marchionne
Orlen is definitely worth millions to the Hinwilers. The Poles certainly pay more than Alfa Romeo. Actually, Italians are only there because Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne, who died in Zurich in July 2018, wanted to see the once great name Alfa Romeo (two-time world champion in 1950/51 with Farina and Fangio) in Formula 1 again. At Haas, Marchionne didn’t get away with wishing that the American team with the Maserati moniker would start.
Almost no movement in 2021
Since the GP revolution won’t ramp up until 2022, teams now officially could only pick two parts for a change. Only McLaren were allowed to build a new chassis because now they drive with Mercedes (formerly Renault). Third place in the World Cup is once again the favorite for the team podium. The other nine teams will hardly go up or down two places. To illustrate the 2020 World Cup booth:
- Mercedes: 573 points
- Red Bull-Honda: 319
- McLaren-Renault: 202
- Racing Point-Mercedes: 195
- Renault: 181
- Ferrari: 131
- Alfa Tauri-Honda: 107
- Alpha-Sauber: 8
- Haas-Ferrari: 3
- Williams-Mercedes: 0
Schumi on the red lap
Given that last year Alpha-Sauber was 99 points behind the seventh Alpha Tauri of the World Championship (with Monza winner Gasly), the Hinwil team should fight for eighth place in the World Championship again. But this range could be in jeopardy, because Ferrari (hopefully with a better engine) looks mainly at Haas and, of course, its “local” Mick Schumacher (21). In addition, the Haas team in Maranello received its own building. Ferrari may move dozens of new employees to Haas due to the budget cap ($ 145 million). And Formula 2 master Schumi is supposed to grow up on a red lap. In an interview with “auto motor und sport”, the Swiss citizen is already quite sure of himself: “Maybe one day we will get a podium!”. But first he has to hit the Russian Nikita Mazepin (21, internal nickname for “idiot”). In 2020, Grosjean and Magnussen in the Haas-Ferrari were 3: 8 points behind Alfa-Sauber, and now?
