- Russian Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny is back on his feet after being poisoned about a month ago.
- On Instagram, Navalny posted a photo of himself standing on a staircase at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin.
- He thanked his doctors for giving him every opportunity to recover.
“Now I’m a guy whose legs shake when he walks down the stairs,” he wrote, matching the image of the steps. He clings to the railing with blue gloves. However, not long ago he had not even recognized people nor understood how to speak.
By his own account, Navalny still awaits a longer road to recovery. There are still many problems to solve. The phone feels like a stone in my hand. “And pouring water yourself is a real attraction.” The post received more than 200,000 likes in a few minutes.
Nerve agent poisoning
Navalny has been treated at the Charité since August 22. He was in an artificial coma for weeks. According to information from special laboratories, he was poisoned with a nerve agent from the internationally banned Novitschok group. Russia denies the accusations of having anything to do with the case.
The Kremlin recently rejected statements by Navalny’s team that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s opponent was allegedly poisoned at a hotel in Tomsk, Siberia. According to their own information, the team had seized a bottle of water there, in which a laboratory in Germany found traces of Novichok. After leaving Tomsk, he collapsed on August 20 on a flight to Moscow. The plane then landed in Omsk, where Navalny had been treated until his rescue flight to Germany.
