Monday at 11.20 a.m. M., The Swiss Army received an emergency call from an Air-Glaciers Beech 200 en route to Sion, VS. The pilot reported that he had no clear indication that his nose gear was properly extended and locked for landing.
The pilot and his co-pilot had previously departed from Sion in the direction of St. Tropez in France, the canton police in Valais said.
The Luftwaffe then began a “hot mission” to visually inspect the landing gear as the Beech flew in a holding loop over Sion.
Aircraft landed in a controlled way thanks to the Air Force
In order to minimize the risk of explosion on landing, it was decided to reduce the amount of fuel. For this reason, the aircraft flew over the aerodrome area for several hours. Two FA-18s escorted the aircraft.
Around 2.30pm, the plane finally landed. Meanwhile, the main landing gear could be extended. However, the nose landing gear remained locked. The two inmates were unharmed. (szm / man)
