The statements of the National Councilor of the SP Zurich on the sidelines of the occupation of the Bundesplatz by the Climate Youth in Bern made headlines. In an interview with SRF journalist Oliver Washington, he criticized various outlets’ focus on the “fucking huere Glarner.”

These were the statements of the SVP Aargau National Council, Andreas Glarner, to his green colleague from the Basel council, Sibel Arslan. He had nicknamed her “Arschlan” and said such an illegal occupation would only be tolerated in her home country. He was referring to Turkey, where Arslan has a family history.

Badran literally told the SRF reporter:

The statement was later broadcast on SRF’s radio show “Echo der Zeit”, after which (along with Andreas Glarner’s failures) it sparked a debate about hardening the tone in politics.

Quote “not authorized”

In an interview with the industry portal “Medienwoche”, Badran now criticizes the SRF. The journalist did not send or respect the phrase “I do not speak to you”, which she pronounced before the appointment. Instead, only the “huere fucking” quote was broadcast. This means that the quote was used without authorization.

Badran says she was very excited at the meeting because she has been campaigning for the environment for 40 years, but the cameras and microphones were not aimed at climate youth and their demands, but at Andreas Glarner. And he points out to journalists:

In response to the articles in which his radio quote was used, Badran received wild emails and also a death threat, continues in the Medienwoche interview.

The death threat said it was time to act against a person like Badran “by completely different means.” She wished she had died in the plane crash, which she survived in 2001, and that it would be difficult for her to calm down in the future. After further threats, the impeccably written letter was signed by a “Glarner fan club member.”

SRF journalist defends himself against criticism

The journalist Oliver Washington criticized by Badran defends himself on Twitter against the politician’s accusations. He regretted that Badran had received threats, but they misrepresented the situation of the interview.

He interviewed youth and climate politicians at the Bundesplatz. At the time, he knew nothing about the dispute between Glarner and Arslan. He continues:
