After the church tower fire on Christmas Eve 2019 in Herzogenbuchsee BE, the renovation work proceeded according to plan. However, due to the wind and rain, the fitting of the new tower hull had to be postponed for a day on short notice.
This step was completed on Thursday. After more than eight months of intensive renovation, the wooden structure could be repositioned in the tower.
Cause of fire not clearly clarified
The copper cladding of the tower will begin immediately thereafter, as the Evangelical Reformed parish announced a week ago. In time for Christmas 2020, the hall church should be available again for religious services.
The fire in the church tower broke out on December 24, 2019. Part of the roof structure collapsed and a hole opened in the roof of the nave. The cause could not be determined with certainty. According to the police, a technical defect in the electrical installation of the building or a burning candle is questioned. (SDA)
