Mr. Hilfiker, were you surprised by the clearing not on Suhr?
Hanspeter Hilfiker: It is a clear result with a very good turnout. That must be accepted.
How do you explain the rejection?
The discussions were very intense. There were different committees. Obviously, the opponents of the future area with their arguments were better received by the population.
Without Corona, the process would have been different. Did that help the opponents?
I do not think so. The process would have been different, perhaps there would have been a community meeting resolution and then a referendum. However, in terms of content, the arguments could be traded everywhere. That is the most important.
What frustrates you the most about no?
The result of a vote does not frustrate me. What bothers me in political discussions is raising fears or ignoring knowledge. In the run-up to today’s vote, that was, for example, the fear of losing your own club’s training facilities or the focus on a single rate category. There are examples of this type in all referendum battles.
Can future space be saved now?
Future space continues. We have always emphasized that the merger should also take place if any of the original five churches abandon the process.
Do you have to redo the fusion analysis?
You do not need to recreate the fusion analyzes. Of course, adjustments need to be made to the administrative locations and resident councils of each district, for example. We will do this in the next few weeks.
If only Unterentfelden participated, it would result in a merger analogous to the merger of Aarau and Rohr in 2010. Would that make sense?
A merger with Unterentfelden also makes sense. If you stay exclusively with Unterentfelden, the project management and community executives will review the planned structures and processes.
Do you see a disadvantage that a possible referendum vote in Oberentfelden only takes place after the probable referendum vote in Aarau?
Now there are several referendums on the way. In Aarau, the signatures are due on Sunday, in Oberentfelden and Densbüren the deadlines are still in force. We will discuss the new situation in the town hall and then we will decide the final date for the Aarau vote.
Is it conceivable that the Aarau City Council will postpone the likely referendum vote from the scheduled date of November 29 to later, for example, March 7, 2021?
It is conceivable that the citizens of Aarau will only decide on the next step in the future area after the final decisions of the remaining municipalities. That would be after November 29.
