After just 72 hours of treatment, US President Donald Trump (74), a corona patient, will be discharged from the military hospital near Washington on Monday night at 6.30 pm local time (0.30 am CEST). The Marine One helicopter has now landed in front of the hospital to carry Trump back to the White House.
Without answering questions from the waiting reporters, Trump ran to the waiting armored limousine. Before entering, he jerked his thumb up and clenched his fist, a sign that all was well. At 0.47am (CEST), Marine One took off in front of the clinic heading for the White House, with cheers from Trump supporters in the background, camped en masse around the hospital.
“Invincible hero” takes off his mask
After a ten minute flight back to the White House, Marine One lands on the South Lawn. Trump stages dramatic return of a winner: walk upstairs up to the balcony on the south side of the presidential residence, and the first thing to do is remove your mask, although there are people standing around you, and from all the places in the Corona hotspot, the White House, where numerous have been infected with the virus in recent days and in the hallways. They are currently almost deserted.
The message of the man who is in the middle of a very important electoral campaign and was torn from the race for a few days: I am strong, the virus cannot harm me.
Minutes before leaving the clinic on the fourth day after his admission, the allegedly still highly contagious Trump wrote a dubious and revealing post on Twitter. Trump cited himself as an “invincible hero” returning to the election campaign and “survived not only the dirty tricks of the Democrats, but also the Chinese virus.” Trump was citing what a New York Post journalist thought of him. But the message soon seemed overwhelming even to Trump, and something happened that Trump never does otherwise: He deleted retweets and uploaded new ones, and the source stated more clearly that these were not his own words.
Didn’t you learn anything?
The drug-laden president, who looked visibly pale and weak in bed, continues to send no message that people should protect themselves from the virus. Instead, shortly before his return to the White House, where he will continue to be under constant and privileged observation by doctors, Trump assured: “Do not be afraid of Covid.”
It feels “great”, “better than twenty years ago”. This is while more than 210,000 people in the United States have died from the virus and countless millions are suffering the consequences of the infection, not to mention the economic consequences of the pandemic.
“He is back”
“He is back.” It has returned again. With these words, Conley announced on Monday the discharge of the president of the military clinic Walter Reed. Trump is “getting better.” He’s still not 100 percent over the mountain, but the team decided he’s fit enough to leave the hospital. “
The oxygen level in the blood is very good and it has been more than three days since Trump had a fever. “There is nothing we can do for him at the hospital that we cannot do at the White House,” Conley said. The president is clearly back: “he’s back.”
How is Trump really?
It is still open how the president is really doing. In the last few days, it has exhausted almost all the drugs tested against Covid-19. Also, there is still confusion about the exact course of the disease. The White House and Donald Trump’s personal physician refuse to provide information on when was the last time the US president tested negative for the corona virus.
So far, it has only been officially said that Trump was tested Thursday night and tested positive on Friday night. It is unclear why the time of the last negative test is kept under lock and key. Conley himself had caused additional uncertainty on Saturday when he said the diagnosis was 72 hours ago. That would indicate a positive test on Wednesday.
Last but not least, a clear timeline would help understand when exactly Trump is infectious and when he no longer poses a risk of infection to bystanders.
