The game between Young Boys and Cluj could hardly have been less eventful. After an hour, YB only had one chance, Cluj went completely pale. Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu first shot Cluj defender Cristian Manea in the 37th minute and then missed on the sidelines.
Rondon also wakes up the Bernese
But at 62 minutes the can opener: Mario Rondón scored the 1-0 with the 1st opportunity for Cluj. After a corner kick, YB failed to clear the ball. Rondón pulled out of the corner, the shot was deflected and landed in YB’s goal.
The Swiss champion seemed to wake up. Immediately the Bernese started the game and pressed the tie. They only had to wait 7 minutes: Christian Fassnacht scored after a Maceiras throw-in that had been extended by Jean-Pierre Nsame.
YB far more harmless
Given the build-up and the fact that YB played out, the Berners won’t be unhappy with the point. However, Cluj was actually a weak opponent. One that YB would have to beat, too far.
But that was exactly the problem with the Young Boys: glaring weakness away from home. Of the last 23 international matches on foreign soil, the Bernese could only win one.
YB against Sofia under pressure
“Yellow-Black” will play Sofia at home in just one week. After winning the first point in Cluj, YB will have to fight for their first win against Sofia. Sofia scored 0-0 at AS Roma on matchday two.
