- The Los Angeles Lakers win Game 6 against the Miami Heat 106-93 and are crowned NBA champions for the 17th time.
- With that, the Californians tied at the same level as the record winner Boston Celtics.
- For the Lakers, a ten-year lean period ends without a title.
- Superstar LeBron James shines with a triple-double and is recognized as the MVP of the final series.
LeBron James’ team dominated against the Miami Heat from the start. Already in the middle of the game the Lakers led by 28 points, meanwhile the advantage was even 36 points. The Californians won the final with 106: 93 and took the decisive fourth victory in the best-of-7 series.
For the Lakers, who had reached the playoffs for the first time since 2013, it is their first win since 2010 and their 17th title. They reached the level of the record-winning Boston Celtics.
Miami can’t do a thing
After the return of Bam Adebayo on Friday, the Heat were able to turn to second major player Goran Dragic, who had to take a break during the final series. Adebayo had 25 points at the end, but neither he, nor Dragic nor the recently prominent Jimmy Butler could do anything against the Lakers’ solid defensive performance.
Outstanding James, MVP again and with a new record
James had a triple-double and finished with 28 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. For the 35-year-old it was the fourth NBA title of his career. He got two of them with Miami (2012, 2013) and another with Cleveland (2016). The two-time Olympic champion is only the third player after Robert Horry (7 titles) and John Salley (4), who triumphed in the NBA with 3 different teams.
Additionally, the 35-year-old was voted the MVP of a final series for the fourth time. And with his 260th appearance in a playoff game, the superstar set a new record.
