- In Mitholz (BE), the appraisal of the properties affected by the cleanup of the ammunition dump has started. This was announced by the Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports (VBS).
- Due to the cleaning of the former army ammunition depot, some of the residents have to leave their homes. For this, a period of about ten years is estimated.
- For those who no longer want to return to their homes, the federal government pays compensation, which is now being determined.
Many families have lived in the village of Blausee-Mitholz in Kandergrund Municipality (BE) for generations. When one day the army clears the old munitions depot on the rock at the edge of the village, part of the population will have to temporarily say goodbye to their home for security reasons.
The first step is to determine compensation for the property of those affected. With the money, they can dare to start over elsewhere.
An appraisal of the land by independent appraisers serves as the basis. After the pilot tests, this estimation has already started. The buildings will be evaluated in four stages. First of all, these are properties that will already be affected during the construction of protective measures for roads and railways.
First test drilling
To clean up the ammunition dump, the railroad and cantonal road must also be protected. To improve the alignment of the ring road, technical investigations of the subsoil should be carried out.
Therefore, test drilling will be carried out in April and May. The affected owners are compensated for the deterioration and damage to the land.
Contaminated sites must be cleaned
In 1947 part of the ammunition depot exploded and the rest was buried. For a long time, experts assumed that any additional explosion would only cause limited damage. Only in 2018 did the DDPS come to a different conclusion. Now the contaminated sites must be completely cleaned up.
