Last year she made headlines for being the youngest head of government in the world at 34. Now Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin is up for discussion because she posed for a magazine and does not wear anything under her jacket. Except neckline.
In the scandinavian country, which is not exactly prudish, opinions are divided as to whether the photoshoot for the October issue of Trendi magazine does not go too far. The 35-year-old started a debate about sexism with the photo.
“CNN” quoted Mari Paalosalo-Jussinmäki, editor of the women’s magazine, that the response had astonished her. Men think the photo is generally “wrong”, women think it is “fabulous”. Apparently terms such as “tasteless” were mentioned. some expressed disdain for the size of their breasts and generally demoted their office. Others, who sympathize with their head of government, say that the amount of skin a woman shows has nothing to do with her competence or professionalism.
The fate of Sanna Marin, who was 35 years old in November: to be Prime Minister. “For years we have portrayed women in blazers with nothing underneath, with famous people,” says editor Paalosalo-Jussinmäki, “and they have never evoked such a reaction.”
Paalosalo-Jussinmäki suspects that people would rather see how the head of government, as orderly as she, deals with the crown pandemic: “This was seen as a waste of time for the Prime Minister.”
The cover story Sanna Marin posed for is the demands of her job. She talks about her fatigue and difficulty, as a mother, to reconcile work and family life.
Which sparked a wave of sympathy for Marin. Numerous men and women posted their own photos in blazers on social media with the hashtag #imwithsanna. (kes)
