Roy Dikinya († 40) just wanted a nice souvenir photo in front of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. But shortly after his girlfriend pressed the trigger, the man fell off the cliff and died.
The couple visited the waterfall on New Years Day. With flip flops on her feet, Dikinya walks over to the edge. There is no barrier. Then he slips on the wet ground. “We were alarmed by the cry of the woman and told us that she had slipped and fallen,” says a tourist who was also there, the “Newsday Zimbabwe”.
Body not yet recovered
After the accident, a search was launched immediately, the Zimbabwe National Park spokesman said. Just 24 hours later, the 40-year-old man was found dead three miles downstream from where he fell.
However, his body has yet to be recovered. Due to heavy rains and rising water levels, the action is too dangerous. The rocks are too slippery. Rescuers will soon be abseiled with the help of a helicopter.
The Environment Minister announced measures after the tragic accident. “All necessary precautions are being taken to prevent such an unfortunate incident from happening again,” said Mangaliso Ndlovu (41). (man)
