- The Young Boys win the most important match of the Super League against FC Basel 2-0 at St. Jakob-Park.
- YB remains at the top of the table and is 8 points ahead of Basler after losing points.
- In the other matches of the night, FCL and FCZ parted ways without goals, St. Gallen – Lugano also finished 0-0.
A situation in the 79th minute was characteristic of Basel’s unfortunate and sometimes bloodless appearance in the superior match against YB. Pajtim Kasami, who was so fit recently and was directly involved in many shots, ran away in a distance attempt: the ball went over the goal of YB goalkeeper David von Ballmoos.
Despite the double burden of the Europa League, the Young Boys made a fresher impression throughout the season and repeatedly nipped the Basel game in the bud with their aggressive pressure.
Basel, on the other hand, seemed calm and didn’t get going. Substitutes Julian von Moos and Arthur Cabral gave the best chances for FCB shortly before the end.
Basel unsortiert in der Defensive
Coach Ciriaco Sforza’s team did little to advance and did not fit behind either. Especially before the break, Bern’s guests always had opportunities. YB benefited twice from this:
- 0: 1, minute 12, Meschack Elia: Eray Cömert pays a candle as he tries to break free in the penalty area. Timm Klose then defends himself insufficiently with his head, Elia may inherit. The Congolese is packed and defeats Heinz Linder in the close corner.
- 0: 2, 20. Minute, Jean-Pierre Nsame: After a corner kick from the right, Cédric Zesiger heads the ball to his teammate Nsame, who heads unrestrictedly and hard into the net. Kasami leaves too much room for the goalkeeper.
Shortly before the end, Basel launched a final offensive, but it came too late and YB deservedly took the points to Bern.
So it goes
For leader YB, the difficult home game against the recently strong FC Lugano is next Saturday. Basel will also face runner-up St. Gallen at home on Saturday.
